A Change Of Plan...
Time for a change!!!!! While my selected issue of gender inequality has not changed, my individual project has become a group project. Today's class started with Mrs. Ponce putting us in groups with people who are researching similar issues about their countries and SDGs. I was put in the gender equality group and after some discussions realized that the people our group identified similar issues and topics and were contemplating similar types of awareness campaigns. Working together made lots of sense! Strength in numbers! We started the class by researching many different ideas to bring awareness to such a serious issue. We came up with many possible ideas such as posters, flyers, bookmarks, a coffee house and even a social experiment. After discussing with each other and getting some needed advice we narrowed our awareness campaign down to two possible selections. The first possible awareness campaign would be a vote conducted at the school. The question for the vote would be "should girls be allowed to vote" and only males would be allowed to participate in the vote. The second possible awareness campaign idea was to put up large chalkboards in certain places in school with "Gender Equality Mean...." written on the chalkboard. People would then be encouraged to write what gender equality means to them. This would create giant chalkboards explaining what students think about the issue of gender equality in the world. After lots of debating we decided to go with the large chalkboards, where people can write what gender equality means to them, in their own words. Going further as a group, we need to make a timeline and decide what type of materials we need to buy to make this idea successful. We can also discuss as a group how to take what students have written and use our campaign and the reflections of the students to not only bring awareness to the issue of gender inequality, but also how our campaign can potentially make a real difference!
